As part of the Citizen Media Center’s inaugural year, we will be offering a minimum of three (3) fellowships for independent citizen journalists covering the 2016 election in Pennsylvania.
One of the goals of the Citizen Media Center is to provide material support for citizen journalism in an environment in which most independent journalists are forced to work at near poverty wages or to squeeze in their reporting in between two or three jobs. These same journalists are often the only reporters holding those in power accountable and/or representing the needs and desires of everyday people.
We will be offering at least three fellowships for independent citizen journalists covering the 2016 election from perspectives underrepresented in the established media. The fellowships will cover the period from September 1, 2016 through November 15, 2016. We are committed to awarding each fellow with a grant of at least $500. If our fundraising efforts are successful, we hope to increase the amount the the awards.
In addition, the Citizen Media Center will have a limited number of Tech Assistants grants to help independent citizen journalists upgrade their equipment in preparation for the 2016 election season.
